This old stone house with its imposing driveway and grounds is a grand, comfortable and cosy place to spend your Retreat. One of the Isle of Wight’s original manors, Kingston is listed in the Domesday book and parts of the house date back to the 13th century. An imposing wooden front door opens onto a flagstone-floored entrance. To the right is the medieval part of the property with its hall, library and drawing room; on the left are the Georgian and Victorian extensions housing the kitchen, pantry and occasional rooms.
The Great Hall is the heart of the property, dominated by an oversized fireplace, decorated with wood panelling and containing a dining table that comfortably seats 16 in medieval banquet style. The library and drawing rooms have sofas to sink into after long walks around the 15 acres of grounds, with gardens containing a carp pond, sundial and pergola. A games barn houses a full-sized snooker table, table football and gym equipment (plus our daily yoga & exercise classes), while a hot tub is heated to a deliciously warm 40C.
